Wearing rubber boots and a Priape leather thong with cod piece, I lash my back over both shoulders and across each side of my back by keeping my arms out of the way. There were 10 strokes over each shoulder and from each side, the redness beginning almost from the first stroke of the flail although obvious lash trails only seem visible with the fine cat at the end. The instrument used in this order: leather flail (6 tails), Hanson Paddle Company (now Paddlewerks) double tawse (4 tails), heavy leather braided whip (13), short brown whip (6), buffalo hide whip (13), martinet (10), and fine braided whip (9).
